British tv in the 1960s was certainly a golden age of the adventure series. Sharp, well-produced escapist fun before the dreary soaps and reality-shows took over our screens. The Prisoner was always head and shoulders above its peers. Not content to be simply a quality adventure series, this show made the viewer think about the society around us and the way we react to it. The fact that, 36 years later, discussions still rage about this deep and meaningful series is a fine tribute to Patrick McGoohan's work. There have been other TV series and movies which have captured the imagination since then (the work of David Lynch comes to mind). Yet none have withstood the test of time as The Prisoner has. Its social comment is everlasting. |

In "The Chat and Mouse", (an ICQ Interest Group Prisoner chatroom), I have been able to talk on the Internet to people I would not otherwise have met, (since several are located in different time zones and continents), about any and every aspect of a 60s television masterpiece. |

In the 21st century the themes and concerns of the series are as relevant as ever, and they're a fascinating lot, your fans! |
Thanks for all the fun, and above all, for the programme which made it possible. |
Happy Birthday! |

I would like to wish a very happy birthday to a man who has played a significant role in my life. I've never met him - despite being in the same room - I've always appreciated that he is a private person, and I respect that. |
The significance I refer to is his power to 'entertain' in the broadest sense. Since I first witnessed his extraordinary 'presence' on the screen many years ago, I know that if there is a programme, film, or play, whatever the quality of the writing or direction, he will produce a performance of power and vibrancy. |
When Judie, Roger, and I wrote to him, telling him of our plan to found an appreciation society for that iconic and mould-shattering series, the speed of his heartening reply surprised and pleased us all. The Prisoner was indeed a testament. It encompassed all that one might say about a good many things. I never felt the need to keep asking him, 'What's it all about?' |
Thanks for enriching my life, |

Dear Patrick, |
What possibly can I say after all these years? |
You have given us some imperishable ground-breaking performances, not the least of which are Brand and The Prisoner. |
My life certainly has never been the same since meeting you. |
It has simply been a privilege to have known you. |
May the Lord love you on this, your 75th birthday, |
