Thank You, Mr. Everyman, |
for your Arrival in our brave new world. |
Your gift to thinking people was the challenge of freedom with your imagination and impressive A.B.C. of The Prisoner. |
Your Village showed us the pattern of the future: |
A society in which the individual is given Checkmate. |
Like a Hammer Into Anvil the people are manipulated |
in constant surveillance by many Rovers today. |
I hope you've found the missing link in your life |
and put it together for Living In Harmony again. |
I'm sure, you need no Change Of Mind, to keep the right of the individual to be Free For All. |
Neither The General, nor The Girl Who Was Death, |
not even a Schizoid Man will be able to destroy your work. |
There may be a Dance of the Dead, but It’s Your Funeral will not happen, as long as your spirit is alive! |
Sir, You are right to proclaim: |
"I’m not a number! I’m a free man! I’m a person!" |
And I think, some early friends of you agree also today |
like Thomasina, Dr. Syn and Rafferty and all the others. |
May The Chimes of Big Ben ring to your 75th birthday |
and the sun shine in your heart on this and every day! |
Do Not Forsake Me Oh My Darling! Your family calls, |
and I give my congratulations with Many Happy Returns! |
Once Upon A Time we'll come all together in peace |
and after Fall Out the sky is no longer the limit. |
All We Need is Love, always and everywhere. |
And so I hope to Be Seeing You once in heaven! |
- Mike, Germany. |

Dear Patrick, |
Years ago, Mr. McGoohan sent me a lovely photo and a charming note when he was in the marvelous Danger Man series which aired here in the States. It was way ahead of its time, I might add. It was love and |
respect at first sight. I was amazed by his incredible talent (and beauty). I still am. The Prisoner has returned to PBS (Ch 13) again and it's almost frightening how very, very up-to-date this groundbreaking series is. I have admired Mr McGoohan for his fearless courage in presenting this series. It will be a Classic for many ages to come, and it is asking us to open our eyes, minds, hearts, and to keep a sharp look out for the subtle social changes around us. It's a magnificent piece. And chilling. And having this #6 prisoner in such |
exquisite surroundings is a stroke of pure genius. |
Many Nazi concentration camps were located in very beautiful forest areas which cleverly hid the horrors within. |
Needless to say, my favorite saying ever is: I will not be stamped, briefed, indexed, etc.; well, I don't have an actor's memory, but it's how I feel exactly. And, we are Not Numbers -- tho' it seems that way, I'm afraid. I was horrified when I saw my first Auschwitz concentration camp numbers printed on a lovely lady's left arm, whose little arm could never have hurt anyone ever, but she had been a prisoner, and for what crime??? I have seen several of these arms over the years - some numbers are huge; once there was a large triangle preceding the long numbers - I found out it meant the first 250,000 prisoners. Civilization has progressed down a |
twisted road, I fear. |
I am hoping to see the last episode of The Prisoner, which I somehow missed. It had quite an effect on the world's population I hear. Ha! Well, it's saying too, I feel, there are really no good guys anywhere, anymore, on a large, collective scale, that is. I am sorry to go on, but I do love Mr. McGoohan's work, his strength and, to repeat, his courage. |
I respect his intense sense of privacy. I feel famous people, and great talents, should have absolute privacy at all times. |
He has been on quite a lot lately. He's icy in Clint Eastwood's Alcatraz (I had never watched it before 'cause I dislike Mr. Eastwood intensely - sorry). I love his Columbo episodes, especially, the Military School one which is superb (those white roses he wants to grow....). And I will have a soft spot for Thomasina forever, and the Disney films, et al. Of course, The Quare Fellow is magnificent. I could go on. And -- Mr. McGoohan should have won an Oscar for the Mel Gibson Braveheart film (I'm not a Gibson fan either.) Mr. McGoohan was brilliant. Should have been, too, in the Lord of the Rings epics. (I wish I had power....) |
May God Bless Mr. McGoohan and his family, be of good health and find peace in a darkening world. Thank you, too, Mr. Goodman for your faithfulness, for everything. |
Blessings, |

A sincere, heart-felt thank you to Mr. McGoohan for contributing something to both art and the intellect that will continue to fascinate, amuse and stir the minds of men and women for as long as we have the freedom to think for ourselves. |

Dear Mr. McGoohan - |
A chance to pass on my warmest good wishes on the occasion of this special birthday is too good to miss. |
A lot of us have the greatest regard for you and your body of work, so can I just add my thanks. Thank you for being the type of actor you are and for the entertainment you bring to us. Thank you also for making us think once in a while, and for giving us (the awkward ones) a mast to nail our rebellious colours to. |
I hope that we will continue to see (or hear) you every once in a while in the coming years. |
All the very best for your continued good health and happiness in the future, |
